Awesome Websites

www.conjuguemos.com : This is a great website for drill and practice exercises. It can be used for Spanish, French, German, and Italian. It is a free website for students. School can pay money so that students can submit their work to a teacher though. I really like this website because it can include vocabulary from your own textbook series or by theme.

www.studyspanish.com : This is a great site to reinforce grammar lessons and check for understanding with its free quizzes.

http://www.elmundolatino.us/ : El Mundo Latino is a Spanish newspaper published in the St. Louis area with news in the region.  This can be used in the classroom so that students can read about local information in Spanish.

http://www.hispanicstlouis.com/ : Students can find out information about Hispanic-related events in the St. Louis region.  There are always events occurring in the St. Louis area, so this is a great site to find out about these events and to bring the community into your curriculum.

http://www.cortland.edu/FLTEACH/ : This is a great listserve for foreign language teachers.  Ideas and questions are shared and listed in a forum.

http://www.colby.edu/~bknelson/SLC/pret_imp.php : Probably one of the hardest concepts for many of my students to grasp is the difference between the preterite and the imperfect and when to use which one. This website has some fun, common stories where students have to choose the preterite or imperfect form of the verb to complete the story. I really like it because if they students picks the wrong answer it doesn’t just say “No,” but it also explains why it is wrong. It gives the same explanation if it’s right too.

http://new.es.music.yahoo.com/videos/charts/ : This link can provide authentic Spanish music and videos. However it can also include popular English songs, but the entire website is in Spanish.

http://www.jameswooldridge.com/billy.php :  This website created by a Spanish teacher contains the song and video for the popular song “Billy la bufanda.”  Spanish students love the upbeat music and the story of Billy la bufanda.  It review the preterite tense, going to places, and negatives.

http://www.youtube.com/user/SrMara :  Another site that contains videos created by a Spanish teacher.  Students love “Conjugations Back” and “Cry Me a Verb.”  They are funny but educational at the same time.

http://www.wordreference.com/ : WordReference is a great site for students and teachers to quickly check a word and its meaning.  I like this site because not only does it give the word, but it also gives more than one possible option and example sentences with the words in use so that the correct word gets used.
