Objectives:
The high school Spanish I students will correctly identify 9 out of 10 clothing vocabulary words spoken orally by the teacher.

Procedure
:

Introduction (5 minutes)
Begin the class greeting the students in the target language.  Hanging in various locations of the classroom will be different picture of clothes or people wearing them to get students prepared visually for the day’s lesson.  In the target language, explain the procedures for the day; it helps the students understand if the agenda is also provided on the board.  Have a quick review of –ar verb conjugations and conjugate the verb llevar – to wear.

Main Activities

1.  The teacher will use pictures on the board and labels to present the new clothing vocabulary having the students repeat the new words.  For a quick review of the understanding, the teacher will ask students, “¿Cómo se dice scarf en español?”  Students should be able to provide the correct Spanish word and pronounce it correctly.  (5 minutes)

2.   The teacher take down the labels and pass out the “Ropa – Clothing” handout.  The teacher will then hold up the Spanish label and ask students what clothing it signifies.  Students should correctly identify the meaning and write the Spanish word on their handout next to the clothing object.  (5 minutes)

3.  Now the teacher will use the pictures and Spanish labels on the board and pass them around to the students.  The students then must use the target language to find out who has their match whether it is the picture of the Spanish word.  (5 minutes)

4.    The students will be given a location – school mall, dance, etc – and with a partner, they will identify what type of clothes would be appropriate to wear in that situation.  Based on what students know about Spanish culture and also based on the pictures on the walls in the classroom, students should identify what type of clothes would be worn in that same situation in a Spanish-speaking country.  They can write their answers on the back of the “Ropa-clothing” handout or in their notebooks.  (15 minutes)

5.      Students will interview each other to learn what type of clothes should be worn in certain situations in the U.S. and in Spanish-speaking countries.  Students will then present their information others have provided them.  (15 minutes)

6.      The homework assignment will be to write about what clothes they would wear in spring, summer, fall, and winter.  They should write at least one sentence for each season in the target language. (2 minutes)

Closure:

The teacher will review the clothing vocabulary once again to reinforce it.  Also they will review what type of clothing is appropriate for certain situations. (3 minutes)

Follow Up Lessons / Activities

The teacher will describe the next lesson: combining the clothes vocabulary with colors and learning adjective agreement. (2 minutes)

Assessment
For learning – while students are interviewing each other about what clothes would be worn in certain situations, the teacher should be walking around the room listening to the students.  The teacher should pay attention to accuracy of information and pronunciation and grammar if necessary.

Of learning – The homework will be collected for a completion check.  The teacher will check for grammar and spelling.
